The Team

The Mavericks Volunteer Rescue Team is a dedicated group of volunteers committed to ensuring the safety of Mavericks and the local coastal community. The team comprises experienced Big Wave Rescue Boat Operators (Jetski), lifeguards, medics, and cliff spotters. They respond to various S.A.R. (search and rescue) situations, including life-threatening and non-life-threatening rescues and injuries, vessel assistance, shark patrol, and crowd control.

The Mavericks Rescue Team continues to train with some of the best safety teams on the planet, including the U.S. Coast Guard, Cal Fire, Pillar Point Harbor Patrol, B.W.R.A.G. (Big Wave Risk Assessment Group), The Hawaiian Water Patrol, and K38. The Mavericks Rescue Team is not only about on-the-ground action but also about proactive community engagement. They use social media to inform the public about incoming swell events and vessel warnings. Additionally, they host an annual safety summit in the Half Moon Bay area, bringing safety professionals up and down the West Coast to educate the general public on the ocean's hazards and how to stay safe.
